Trojans Complete Day 1 of SAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

HICKORY, N.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams completed day one of the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field championship on Saturday (Apr. 24).

For the men, Philip Quillen led the way by finishing in second place in the 3000 steeple with a mark of 9:23.46. Daniel Similton recorded a top-10 finish at 10:08.40. Patrick Berlejung came in at eighth place with a time of 32:24.78. Thomas Sutcliffe (1500m), Matthew Burgess (800m), and Hunter Norman (400m hurdles) all qualified for finals on Sunday.

For the women, Katie Landry currently leads the heptathlon after four events at 2492 points. Landry won the 200m (27.37) and the shot put (11.07m). She also came in sixth place in the javelin with a distance of 32.17m. Lauren Pernell sits in third place at 2344 points, as she won the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.56. Madison Crumley and Aubrey Stoddard each recorded top-10 finishes in the 3000 steeple. Elise Matthews, Hannah Beach, and Faith Nelson all came in the top-10 in the 10K.

Olivia Rish (1500m), Emma Deadwyler (400m and 200m), Brianna Quartararo and Kamryn Osterbind (800m), and Lauren Pernell (400m hurdles) all qualified for finals on Sunday.
