Emma Deadwyler, Philip Quillen and Christian Carpenter Named Jimmy John’s Female and Co-Male Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's track standout Emma Deadwyler, men's track standout Philip Quillen and baseball standout Christian Carpenter have been named the Jimmy John's Female and Co-Male Athletes of the Week.

Carpenter, a senior from Polkton, N.C., was the second of eight Trojan pitchers to see action in AU's season-ending 7-2 victory eight days ago at Southern Wesleyan. The hard-throwing right-hander earned the win and improved to 4-3 on the season after tossing four innings of relief. He scattered seven hits and allowed just one run, while striking out six batters and walking one.

Deadwyler, a freshman from Travelers Rest, S.C., took home third place in the 400m (56.64) at last weekend's SAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which set a new Anderson school record. She took fourth place in the 200m (24.94), while also being part of the 4x400m relay team that finished in third place with a time of 3:58.17. Deadwyler was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week twice this season and set three new individual school records.

Quillen, a senior from Spartanburg, S.C., finished in second place in the 3,000m steeple chase by breaking an AU school record with a mark of 9:23 at the SAC Championships. He also took sixth place in the 5K with a time of 14:50.72. Earlier this season, Quillen was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week after winning the 5K at the LR Bears Open (15:01.92) on March 21.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
