Trojans Win Final Regular Season Contest; 1-0

Anderson, S.C. – With hosting a SAC quarterfinal round looming, Anderson University women's soccer (10-3-4, 6-2-3 SAC) took care of what they needed to by defeating South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry (5-10-2, 4-7 SAC), 1-0, on Wednesday evening at Spero Financial Field. With Mars Hill and Limestone ending in a draw, the Trojans move into the fourth slot and will host the first round on Saturday versus number five Limestone.

"It was a hard fought game tonight and we're happy to have finished the regular season with a win," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We're proud of our fourth place regular season finish in this extremely competitive conference and we're very much looking forward to the conference tournament."

After an action packed first half draw, junior Emma Deadwyler was able to gather a ball near the goal and punch it past the keeper for what proved to be the game-winner in the 74th minute.

For the match, the Wolves outshoot the Trojans, 23-15, with AU being more accurate with 10 shots to Newberry's five being on target.

Senior keeper Jeanette Campbell recorded 10 saves on the night. Campbell ends regular season play at the top of the league stats in save percentage (.926) and goals against average (0.42).

The Black and Gold were also spotted in the NCAA Southeast rankings, slipping into the number 10 slot.

Anderson will host SAC opponent Limestone on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
