Women’s Soccer Bounces Back With Solid Road Win At Emory & Henry; 4-2

EMORY, VA. – Following a tough setback on Wednesday evening, Anderson University women's soccer (6-2-3, 3-1-2 SAC) bounced back with a solid road performance defeating South Atlantic Conference opponent Emory & Henry (2-7, 0-6 SAC), 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Fred Selfie Stadium.

"We're happy to be coming home with three points on the road," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "Looking forward to a quick turnaround against Tusculum on Wednesday."

Anderson used three first half goals and a late successful penalty kick try to put away the Wasps, 4-2, and pick up valuable points towards league play.

During the 13th minute of action, junior Emma Deadwyler was the recipient of a beautiful cross from freshman Camryn Woods, that allowed Deadwyler to punch it in from short distance to give the Trojans the early advantage.

Anderson struck again in the 25th minute off of freshman Meggie Powell perfectly placed corner kick inside the 18 that Woods was able to one time past the keeper to give the Black and Gold a two goal lead.

The Trojans third goal of the opening frame came when freshman Carley Keuffer found freshman Catherine Nardella streaking toward the goal. Nardella headed the pass past the keeper to give AU a comfortable, 3-0, lead.

Emory & Henry scored its first goal of the match in the 53rd minute on a ball that snuck past AU keeper Macy McDufford. The Wasps possessed the ball more often in the second half of play, but Anderson's defense proved to be too stingy to let them back into the match.

With the score, 3-1, Anderson was awarded a penalty kick with six minutes to play. Freshman Carley Keuffer drove the kick into the low left corner to put the match away.

Emory & Henry was able to score a second goal of the match with 20 seconds left from a shot from distance that was just out of reach of McDufford's outreached hands to set the final score, 4-2.

McDufford was credited with four saves, after replacing starting keeper Jeanette Campbell for the second half of action. Campbell picked up her sixth overall win of the season.

Anderson will remain on the road to square off with SAC opponent Tusculum on Wednesday. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
