Vaughan and Powell Named Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Spain Vaughan of the Anderson University men's cross country team, and Meggie Powell of the women's soccer team, have been named the Jimmy John's Male and Female Athletes of the Week ending October 9th.

Vaughan, a sophomore from Greer, S.C., has impressed so far in his second campaign in the black and gold. In the last two meets, Spain has set the Anderson school record in the 8,000m on consecutive occasions. At the Queen City Invite (Sept. 23), Vaughan finished fourth place with a time of 24:37. He topped that mark this weekend at the Royals XC Challenge to break his own record at a pace of 24:34.1. That time earned him SAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.

Powell, a freshman defender from Johnson City, Tenn., scored a goal in each of the games last week at Tusculum (Oct. 5) and at home versus Coker (Oct. 8). Meggie has also been a key contributor defensively as the team picked up a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Coker.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
