Women’s Soccer Ends In Draw At Lenoir-Rhyne; 1-1

HICKORY, N.C. – Despite being down a goal and getting outshot 24-3, Anderson University women's soccer (5-1-3, 2-0-2), tied the match before the first half ended and used its defense to hold on for the,1-1 draw, against South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne (3-2-2, 3-0-1 SAC) on Wednesday evening at Moretz Sports Complex.

"I'm very proud of the fight the girls showed tonight and are happy to be coming home with a hard earned point on the road," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We're glad to remain unbeaten in conference play and will continue to improve as we prepare for Limestone on Wednesday."

Lenoir-Rhyne was able to strike first in the 10th minute of action after Evan O'Leary found Neve Dunton, scoring from short range to put the Bears up, 1-0.

Anderson remained patient and was able to stave off several more good runs from LR, before junior Emma Deadwyler crossed to junior Bethany Anderson. Anderson settled the pass and was able to take the shot, from distance, finding the top shelf to tie the game in the 27th minute of play.

Senior keeper Jeanette Campbell was credited with seven saves on the evening, improving her overall record to (5-0-3).

With the draw, AU remains unbeaten in SAC play and sits in third place with eight total points.

The Trojans return home to host SAC opponent Limestone on Wednesday, September 28th. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm at Spero Financial Field.
