Women’s Soccer Defeats Mars Hill; 3-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – For the second straight game, Anderson University women's soccer scored three goals to push its overall record to 8-2-4 and league record to 5-1-3 defeating South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill (4-7-1 1-6-1 SAC), 3-0, on Tuesday evening Spero Financial Field.

"We're glad the score reflected the solid performance tonight, said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We moved the ball well and created some great opportunities while also keeping a clean sheet in the back. Proud of our girls and looking forward to finishing the season strong!"

Anderson freshman and third leading goal scorer in conference play, Camryn Woods, scored the eventual game-winner in the 34th minute of action. Woods gathered the ball outside of the penalty box and blasted a shot to the top-shelf to give the Trojans a, 1-0, lead.

The Trojans continued to dominate possession, quickly shutting down the few runs that the Lions put together. Anderson struck again when freshman Meggie Powell and freshman Catherine Nardella connected in the 70th minute for Nardella to record her third goal of the season. AU's senior Spencer Heming put the match away scoring in the 88th minute of action.

The Black and Gold outshot the Lions, 23-3 with 11 shots coming on goal. AU also dominated the corner kick advantage, 10-1.

Anderson will enjoy an eight-day break before traveling to nonconference opponent Clayton State on Oct. 19. Kick-off is slated for 7 pm.
