Solid Team Effort Ends In Draw Against No. 21 Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (3-1-1, 0-0-1 SAC) opened South Atlantic Conference play with a draw against #21 Wingate (4-0-1, 0-0-1 SAC) at WU Complex.

"We got a good result tonight against a very good opponent, said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We weathered the storm defensively and created a few strong opportunities offensively. We look forward to building upon this result."

Perhaps facing its best opponent this season, the Trojans used a solid team effort to keep the Bulldogs from finding the back of the net. For the game Wingate outshot Anderson 21-6, however only five of those shots were on goal.

WU and AU had several opportunities to score, with AU's best chance coming in the second half of action. Just inside the 71st minute of play, senior Sarah Miller was able to get a good look at goal with her shot just sailing off the cross bar.

Senior Jeanette Campbell recorded five saves on the evening to help preserve the draw.

Anderson returns home to host SAC preseason top-tier opponent Carson-Newman on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
