Belmont Abbey Advances With 1-0 Victory Over AU

BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey senior midfielder Stephanie Leotti scored the only goal of the match off an assist from Kristin Voirin in the 70th minute as the top-seeded Crusaders advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 victory over eighth-seeded Anderson University Wednesday afternoon. The Abbey, winners of 11 straight, posted its 10th consecutive shutout to improve to 17-4-0. Anderson's season ends at 7-9-2. The victory was Belmont Abbey's second 1-0 decision over Anderson this season. The Crusaders won the Oct. 3 regular-season match at Anderson by a 1-0 score. The Abbey got on the board at the 69:33 mark as sophomore defender Kristin Voirin gathered a loose ball just inside Anderson territory and lifted a high through ball ahead to Leotti, who got behind three Trojan defenders dribbled 10 yards and ripped a shot into the top left corner of the net for her third goal of the year. Anderson goalkeeper Kelli Whitfield made three saves. Anderson University Women's Soccer Statistics
