Lady Trojans Lose First Conference Match

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Lyndsay Brennan tallied a goal and an assist and April Jacobs added two assists as Mount Olive defeated Anderson 2-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Ray and Chris Amon Field. Mount Olive (3-6-1 overall, 2-1-1 Conference Carolinas) broke a scoreless tie at the 19:24 mark when Jacobs played a ball from midfield to Brennan, who led Higgins past the Anderson defense for a breakaway. Higgins scored from 18 yards out for her fourth goal of the season. The Trojans appeared to score a second goal seven minutes later when Brennan bent in a shot off a corner kick. But the ball was ruled to have gone over the end line and played back in before Brennan took the shot. Brennan would get on the scoring column at 41:06 on a corner kick as Gina Dos Santos played the ball to Jacobs, who found Brennan at the far post. Brennan's goal tied her with Higgins for the team lead. Anderson (6-3-0, 3-1-0) threatened during the final 15 minutes of the half when Lynne Flint's shot deflected off of Mount Olive keeper Ali O'Steen, but Blythe Hall's follow-up went over the crossbar. O'Steen also recorded saves on a pair of shots by Crystal Gaffney 53 seconds apart in the 40th minute. Anderson goalkeeper Calle McCallister recorded three of her nine saves in the final two minutes of the second half. She also denied Brennan a second goal by Brennan midway through the second half, recording a save on a point-blank header off a corner kick. O'Steen finished with three saves to record her third shutout of the season. The loss snapped Anderson's four-match winning streak. Anderson University Women's Soccer Statistics
