Lady Trojans Blank North Greenville

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Lynne Flint scored one goal and had two assists and Virginia Cates scored one goal and had one assist to lead Anderson University to a 3-0 victory over North Greenville in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Smethers Field. "Our defense was really good," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "Lexie Horn led our defense. We connected in the back through her. She kept us organized." Flint, a freshman from Fairbanks, Alaska, opened the scoring at 9:26 off a pass from Cates. It was Flint's fifth goal of the season, and Cates' first assist. Flint tallied her first assist at 60:56 when she played a ball over the top to Blythe Hall, who dribbled in, had her first shot blocked, then scored on the rebound to make it 2-0 Anderson. The goal was the first of Hall's career. Cates capped the scoring at 89:18 when she took a pass from Flint and scored on a breakaway. The assist to Cates was Flint's fifth of the season. "Ginny and Lynne continue to connect and score," Dowiak said. "It's nice to see. We're reading the defense really well, and our patterned runs are starting to show. When it mattered most, we made the right decisions." Calle McCallister, a freshman from Marietta, Ga., earned the shutout in goal for Anderson. She made three saves, including a diving stop late in the match to tally Anderson's first shutout of the season. The victory improves Anderson to 5-2. Under the direction of Dowiak, who is in his first season, the Lady Trojans already have tied last year's victory total. The loss drops North Greenville to 1-6.
