McDowell’s Career High Helps Lead Trojans Past Warriors; 105-71

ANDERSON, S.C. – Scoring its highest point total since defeating Mars Hill, 121-56 during the 2018-19 season, Anderson University women's basketball (5-0) poured in 105 points in its nonconference victory over Southern Wesleyan (2-4) on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

The 5-0 start by the Trojans is tied for the second-best start in program history (8-0, 2015-16) and head coach Jonathon Barbaree's best start at the helm of the Black and Gold.

"Offensively we played great today and shot the ball extremely well," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "This team does a great job of sharing the ball and that is something that will be important as we move closer to conference play."

"It was not our best effort, defensively, but you have to give credit to how well SWU shot the ball," added Barbaree.  "We will need to step it up and do a better job contesting shots moving forward. We will work on that this week."

Anderson was paced by junior Diamond McDowell's career-high 30 points. McDowell also ripped down 13 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season. The native of Asheboro, N.C. also dished out five assists and recorded four steals. Senior Zamiya Passmore dropped in 20 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out seven assists and was credited with three steals in the lopsided victory. Graduate Brittney Stafford tallied 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from behind the arc. Stafford also dished out five assists. Sophomore Ashlyn Sheridan netted 11 points while senior Nelliah Wilson corralled 12 rebounds and chipped in eight points.

Southern Wesleyan placed four players in double-digit scoring with Shelby Glance scored a team-high 12 points for the Warriors.

AU shot 50% from the field for the second straight game and outrebounded the Warriors 47-30.

The Trojans will hit the road for a two-game road swing when it travels to nonconference opponent Augusta on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
