Farris, Matthews, McDowell and Wright, Jr. Named Jimmy John’s Athletes Of The Week

Tyler Farris of the Anderson University men's track and field team, Elise Matthews of the women's track and field team, Diamond McDowell of the women's basketball team and AJ Wright, Jr. of the men's basketball team have been selected as the Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week.

A sophomore from Jefferson, Ga., Farris broke the AU record for the men's heptathlon at the VMI Winter Relays, recording 4189 points. Farris set personal bests in six of the competition's seven events, and his score sits second overall in the South Atlantic Conference. 

Matthews, a senior from Piedmont, S.C. won the women's 3000-meter race at the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C., running a season-best 10:30. 

McDowell, a junior from Asheboro, N.C. recorded two double-doubles to help lead the Trojans past Newberry and Coker. For the week, McDowell averaged 19.5 points per game, 13.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. She also totaled five blocked shots for the week.

Wright, Jr, a freshman from Tampa, Fla. played a vital role in the Trojans picking up two wins during the week. In the two games he combined he scored 22 points, pulled in 14 rebounds, dished out 13 assists and was credited with four steals.

Each week, student-athletes are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
