Trojans Finish 2-0 In The AU Classic With Win Over Emmanuel; 81-61

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's basketball (4-0) won its fourth game in a row defeating nonconference opponent Emmanuel, 81-61, on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

With the win, the Trojans finished 2-0 in the AU Classic. Lander also finished 2-0 with Young Harris and Emmanuel each finishing with an 0-2 record for the weekend.

"Really enjoyed hosting the first ever AU Classic, sponsored by TAF and appreciate the teams that traveled to participate in it," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree.

"I thought we played a solid game on both ends," said Barbaree "I liked that once again we scored in the 80's and in this game we were able to do so without relying on the 3-point shot. We tend to have a size advantage and I want us to recognize that we can play inside out. That combined with transition baskets can really make up for when shots don't fall."

"I love how we share the ball and look forward to building on this start, as we move forward," added Barbaree

Anderson's redshirt senior Zamiya Passmore scored a game-high 22 points and was credited with eight assists. Junior Diamond McDowell narrowly missed her third double-double of the season pouring in 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  Sophomore Ashlyn Sheridan netted nine points and ripped down eight rebounds, while senior Nelliah Wilson dropped in eight points and pulled in seven rebounds for the Black and Gold.

AU got solid minutes from the reserves with everyone getting at least three minutes of action. Junior Martyna Radzicka scored five points with senior Maggie Campbell and freshman Peytyn Oliver each hitting a three-point basket to spark the team. Campbell also grabbed three rebounds and dished out an assist in her 13 minutes of play.

Emmanuel placed four players in double-digit scoring with Tyasia Freeman scoring a team-high 16 points.

Anderson shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Lions, 44-38.

The Trojans will welcome nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan on Saturday. Tip-off inside the Abney Athletic Center is slated for 2 pm.
