Women’s Golf in 13th at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. - Paced by junior Sarah Timms' 15-over-par 87, the Anderson women's golf team is in 13th place following opening-round action Sunday at the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by Wingate at the at the National Golf Club's 5,840-yard, par 72 layout.

Armstrong Atlantic State (315) leads the 18-team field by 14 strokes over Lee University (329). USC Beaufort is third after a combined 332, while Wingate, which won the event a year ago, is fourth following a 334. UNC Pembroke (338) is fifth, while Coker (342) and Queens (344) are sixth and seventh, respectively. Limestone (346), King (346) and Lincoln Memorial (349) rounded out the top 10.

The Trojans (355) are five shots behind both Catawba (350) and Barton (350) and are two strokes ahead of 14th-place Converse.

Timms sits in an 11-way logjam for 32nd, while senior Katie Eskew (89) and junior Natalie Feder (89) are each two shots further back in an 11-way tie for 47th. Sophomore Braiden Furtick carded a first-round 90 and shares 58th with five others. Sophomore Arista Setro rounded out the Trojan contingent with a 108 and is 89th entering Monday's final round.

Queens' Grace Glaze and Armstrong's Jenna Birch sit atop the individual leaderboard, with each firing a first-round 4-over-par 76.

The two-day event will conclude with 18 holes on Monday. Tee times are set for 8 a.m.
