BRISTOL, Tenn. - Senior Katie Eskew and junior Sarah Timms each carded an 11-over-par 82 to pace the Anderson University women's golf team, as the Trojans sit in seventh place following opening-round action Monday at the King University Invitational, hosted at the par 71, 5,882 yard Bristol Country Club.
Anderson (335) leads UVa-Wise (406) and trails sixth-place Pfeiffer (334) by just one shot and Barton, which occupies the fifth spot, by only two strokes. Limestone posted a team total 312 and leads Erskine (323) and the host Tornado (323) by 11 strokes, while Mount Olive (328) sits in fourth following the first round.
Eskew and Timms share the 16th spot with King's Cortnee Young, while junior Natalie Feder posted a 12-over-par 83 and is tied with Barton's Sarah Murray for 19th. Sophomore Crystal Swanson fired an 88 and is tied for 27th entering Tuesday's final round. Fellow sophomore Braiden Furtick is one shot further back after carding a first-round 89 and is tied for 30th.
King's Elizabeth Swallow leads the tournament after shooting an even-par first-round 71, while Limestone's Hannah Luckett is in second following a three-over par 74.
"We definitely left some shots out there," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "The greens were difficult and the pin placement was tough, but everyone has to play the same course. We have an opportunity to pass some teams and are looking to do better tomorrow."
The tourney concludes on Tuesday.
