Oct. 15, 2013

SALISBURY, N.C. - Led by Katie Eskew's fourth-place effort, the Anderson women's golf team improved by three strokes overall and moved up one spot to finish tied for seventh at Catawba's Patsy Rendleman Invitational, hosted at the 5,998-yard par 72 Country Club of Salisbury.

"We played a little better today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "This was a good, strong field and hopefully we gained some momentum. Katie (Eskew) put together two good rounds and we were proud to see her named to the all-tournament team with her finish."

Anderson (327-324=651), which was tied with host Catawba (327-330=657) in eighth at the end of the first round, caught Erskine (317-334=651) as both teams finished in seventh. The two squads finished one stroke ahead of ninth-place Lincoln Memorial (329-323=652) and four shots in front of Converse (336-319=655).

UNC Pembroke (317-311=628) jumped from third to claim the title by three strokes over second-place Newberry (314-317=631). Queens (323-312=635) moved from sixth to third, while Montevallo (319-319=638) took fourth. West Georgia (332-307=639) and Wingate (311-330=641) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Eskew (75-78=153) wrapped up the tourney tied for fourth with Tusculum's Sara Howard (80-73=153), while Garyt Hamilton carded a two-day 163 to finish tied for 36th. Sarah Timms slashed five strokes off her first-round effort and finished in 46th with a two-day total 165.

Natalie Feder (87-84=171) and sophomore Braiden Furtick (86-85=171) shared the 58th spot.

Newberry's Marianna Monaco led the tournament wire-to-wire with a two-day total 149 and edged West Georgia's Jessica Danford (79-72=151) and Catawba's Leslie Long (74-77=151) by two strokes to claim individual medalist honors.
