Women’s Golf Tied for Eighth at Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. - Senior Katie Eskew fired a first-round three-over-par 75 to lead the Anderson women's golf team, as the Trojans are tied with host Catawba in eighth place after opening-round play Monday at Catawba's Patsy Rendleman Invitational, hosted at the 5,998 yard par 72 Country Club of Salisbury.

"We recorded some really good scores today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "The course played longer than usual today. Hopefully we can get some consistency and shoot better top-to-bottom tomorrow. Katie (Eskew) played very well today. "

Anderson (337) and the host Lady Indians (337) lead 10th-place Lincoln Memorial (329) by two strokes, and trail North Greenville (326) by one shot. Wingate (311) leads the tourney by three strokes over Newberry, with Erskine (317) and UNC Pembroke (317) tied for third. Montevallo (319) is in fifth and Queens is sixth.

Eskew carded 16 pars on the day and is tied for fourth with North Greenville's Denise Shirley. Sophomore Garyt Hamilton posted a nine-over 81 and is in an 11-way tie for 28th. Junior Sarah Timms is four shots further back in a tie for 51st after notching an opening-round 85 and sophomore Braiden Furtick fired an 86 and is tied for 61st. Junior Natalie Feder (87) is tied for 66th heading into Tuesday's final round.

Newberry's Marianna Monaco leads the tournament after shooting an even-par first-round 72, while Catawba's Leslie Long and Erskine's Rima Antous are tied for second, two shots further back.

The two-day event concludes on Tuesday.
