Women’s Golf in 11th at Flagler’s Fall Slam

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Paced by junior Natalie Feder's 6-over-par 78, the Anderson women's golf team is in 11th-place following opening-round action Monday at the 11th Annual Flagler Fall Slam, hosted at the 6,062 yard, par-72 Marsh Creek Country Club.

The 14-team field includes five nationally-ranked NCAA Division II teams, with No. 3 Barry University, No. 6 Saint Leo University, No. 11 Flagler, No. 13 West Florida and No. 15 Armstrong Atlantic State University each competing for the title.

"I thought Natalie and Katie played well today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "It is a very challenging course .There is a lot of water and marshes and this course exposes weaknesses. We are only four shots behind (Carson-Newman), so hopefully we will shoot better tomorrow and move up a spot."

Barry (298), the defending team champion, leads the host Saints by five strokes and Armstrong Atlantic State by 10 shots. Jenna Birch of Armstrong, the defending individual medalist, is currently tied for 15th, seven strokes off the pace set by Barry's Maria Paola Fiorio, who carded a 1-under-par 71 on the day.

Feder is also in the seven-way tie for 15th, while senior Katie Eskew carded an opening-round 79 and is tied for 22nd. Sophomore Braiden Furtick fired an 89 and is tied for 61st and junior Sarah Timms is two shots further back in 69th after notching an opening-round 91. Sophomore Garyt Hamilton posted a 93 and is in 70th, with sophomore Arista Setro in 74th following a first-round 96.

The tournament will conclude with 36 holes on Tuesday.
