Trojans Rally To Beat Saints, 9-7

ANDERSON, S.C. - Caleb Owen and Tony Graham drove in two runs apiece and Aaron Griffith and Will Cheatham combined to blank Limestone in the final six innings to lead Anderson College to a 9-7 CVAC victory over the Saints Sunday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The victory gives Anderson, 9-20 overall and 3-8 in the CVAC, a three-game weekend sweep of Limestone, now 17-15, 3-9, and moved the Trojans out of last place in the conference standings. The Saints jumped on the Trojans early. Limestone scored five runs in the second and two runs in the third to seize a 7-3 lead. David Wise, Travis Clary, and Matt Craig all provided run-scoring singles in the second for the Saints. Anderson got one run back in the fourth on a single by Justin Sterling, a wild pitch, a single by Owen, and a sacrifice fly by Graham. The Trojans tied the game with a three-run spot in the fifth. Two errors and a single by Jonathan Pitts loaded the bases with no outs. A walk, a fielder's choice, and a third error allowed Anderson to put three runs on the board. Griffith, a sophomore from Greenville, entered in the fourth and allowed three hits and struck out two in 3 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Cheatham, a sophomore from Lexington, followed Griffith and allowed just one hit and struck out one in the final 2 2/3 innings. The Trojans scored what proved to be the winning run in the sixth. Kyle Lewis walked to lead off the inning, moved to second on a ground out, and scored on a throwing error. Anderson added an insurance run in the seventh. Jessie Whiteside reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a single by Owen, and scored on a single by Graham. Owen had three hits in five trips and Pitts had two runs in four trips and scored two runs to lead Anderson's offense. The Trojans play host to Southern Wesleyan Monday at 3 p.m. Season Statistics
