Falcons Salvage Split With Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. - Pfeiffer reliever Brian York shut down an Anderson College rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Falcons a 7-5 victory in the second game and a split of a CVAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. In the first game, Anderson rallied from a 5-3 deficit by scoring six runs in its final three at bats to take a 9-6 victory. Anderson is now 11-23 overall and 4-9 in the CVAC, while Pfeiffer is 27-8, 10-4. In the second game, Pfeiffer scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-2 lead. But in the bottom of the seventh, the Trojans started a rally against Falcon starter Chris Nall, who had scattered six hits through the first six innings. A leadoff walk by John Mac White and a double by Jonathan Pitts pushed the first run across. Pinch-hitter F.A. Vildosola added two more runs when he hit the first pitch he saw from Nall over the left field fence. After Owen singled, York was brought in from shortstop to pitch. After Jared Taylor struck out, Jason Ratliff singled to put the tying runs on base. But designated hitter Tony Graham struck out and Donavon Schmidt grounded out to end the game and give the Falcons a split. Pfeiffer built a 4-0 lead in the second game on a two-run homer by Robert Scott in the second, a RBI single by Jamie Tucker in the fourth, and two Anderson errors and a single by Zach Greene in the fifth. In the first game, Pfeiffer scored an unearned run in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead, but the Trojans took a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer by White and a two-out, two-run double by Ratliff. After Pfeiffer scored a single run in the seventh to make it a 7-6 game, Anderson added single runs in the seventh and eighth. In the seventh, Schmidt doubled and Kyle Lewis tripled. In the eighth, Owen reached on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by Jason Jones. Lewis was 3-for-3 in the first game and scored two runs. Brett Youngblood, 3-5, scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked three in six innings to pick up the victory in the first game. Adam Dymond blanked the Falcons for 2 2/3 innings for his third save. The Falcons had five of their eight hits in the first two innings. Anderson cut the Pfeiffer lead to 4-3 in the second on singles by Schmidt and Lewis, a walk, a sacrifice fly by Pitts, and a two-out Texas League double by Taylor. A solo home run by Jamie Tucker and a two-out RBI single by Greene increased the Falcon lead to 4-0 in the second. The Falcons seized a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer by Jeff Robbins.
