Athletic Department Holds Annual Honors Night

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson College athletic department held its annual athletic honors night Tuesday at the Henderson Auditorium on the AC campus. Each sport presented two awards, and Anderson's championship teams and All-CVAC athletes were recognized. The event also featured the first-ever presentation of the Anderson-Erskine Cup Sponsored by ARAMARK. Erskine athletic director Mark Peeler presented the Cup to Anderson athletic director Bobby Beville for AC's 19-13 victory in the competition. LaShonda Chiles of the women's basketball team received the Ed Oxford Memorial Award, which is presented annually to AC's athlete of the year. Here is a list of the honorees: Men's Cross Country -- Golden Guts: Jordan Prescott (Bronx, N.Y.); Most Valuable: Dustin Lang (Williamston, S.C.) Women's Cross Country -- Most Consistent: Ashley Smoak (W. Columbia, S.C.); Most Valuable: Kacey Harold (Pataskala, Ohio) Men's Soccer -- Most Improved: Michael Zion (Spartanburg, S.C.); Most Valuable: Jody Forno (Toronto, Canada) Women's Soccer -- Attitude and Commitment Award: Kelly Gruwell (Milledgeville, Ga.); Most Valuable: Amy Davidson (N. Wilkesboro, N.C.) Volleyball -- Coach's Award: Mindy Salley (Johnsonville, S.C.) ; Most Valuable Team Player: Kelly Shiflet (Anderson, S.C.) Men's Basketball -- Best Work Ethic: Selynto Anderson (McCormick, S.C.); Most Valuable Team Player: Joel Zimmerman (Knoxville, Tenn.) Men's JV Basketball -- Heart and Hustle Award: Mitchell Moss (Union, S.C.); Most Valuable: Tion Steele (Rock Hill, S.C.) Women's Basketball -- Most Improved: Shemika Reed (Commerce, Ga.); Most Valuable -- LaShonda Chiles (Greenwood, S.C.) Wrestling -- Thom Hoppler Memorial Award: Josh Merry (Gainesville, Ga.); Most Outstanding: Careef Robertson (Irmo, S.C.) Baseball -- Most Valuable Pitcher: Will Cheatham (Lexington, S.C.); Most Valuable Player: Caleb Owen (Westminster, S.C.) Softball -- Coach's Award: Shelly Sawyer (Mullins, S.C.); Most Improved: Lauren Cooley (Anderson, S.C.)
