No. 21 Mount Olive Blanks AC, 6-0

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Steve Parrish drove in three runs with a pair of doubles and Matt Rusch allowed three hits in seven scoreless innings to lead No. 21 Mount Olive to a 6-0 victory over Anderson in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference baseball Saturday at Scarborough Field. Mount Olive (32-12 overall, 17-7 CVAC) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when Matt Rickard was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Parrish's double to left. Mount Olive extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth as T.J. Fly led off the inning with a single, Rickard was hit by a pitch for the second time and Parrish doubled off the centerfield wall. Mount Olive added a run in the sixth when Matt Johnson reached on a bunt single, moved to third on a double by Fly and scored on a wild pitch. The Trojans capped the scoring on Rickard's two-run homer in the eighth inning, his first of the year. Rusch (3-1) faced only two batters above the minimum and allowed just two Anderson runners as far as second base. He walked one and struck out two, and was aided by two inning-ending double plays. Jason Ratliff and John Mac White each doubled for Anderson (16-29, 7-13) but were both left on second. Brian Corbett finished the game in relief for Mount Olive, allowing one hit in two shutout innings. Anderson starter Brett Youngblood (3-6) took the loss. Mount Olive is assured of earning the No. 2 seed in the CVAC Baseball Tournament April 23-25 at Spartanburg, S.C. The Trojans still have a shot at winning a share of the regular-season title, but only if first-place Pfeiffer loses all three games against Coker next weekend. Anderson clinched a spot in the CVAC Tournament by winning the first game of the series Friday. Season Statistics Release Courtesy Of Mount Olive SID
