McGrath Leads Augusta State Past AC, 9-5

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Garrick McGrath had a two-run double and a solo home run to lead No. 14 Augusta State to a 9-5 non-conference victory over Anderson College Wednesday afternoon. The game was the regular-season finale for Anderson, 19-33 overall. AC's next game will be against Pfeiffer at 1 p.m. Friday at Spartanburg's Duncan Park in the first round of the 2004 CVAC Tournament. The Jaguars, 35-13 overall, used McGarrick's double in the first inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. But Anderson battled back with second runs in the second and third and two runs in the fifth to tie the game at 4. AC used three walks and RBI singles by Kyle Lewis and Seth Thompson to score the two runs in the fifth. The Jaguars took a 5-4 lead in the sixth then put the game away with a four-run seventh -- a solo homer by McGrath and a three-run shot by Brannigan Rosser. Augusta State outhit Anderson, 11-8.
