ANDERSON, S.C. - Barton College survived a late rally by Anderson College in the second game to sweep the Trojans 16-8 and 9-7 Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. In the first game, the Bulldogs collected 19 hits, seven for extra bases, and freshman pitcher Kelly Stracke scattered 16 hits in 8 2/3 innings for a 16-8 victory. Rufus Wilson drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run single. Justin Wilkes, Kevin Brosseau, and Dennis Blackmon all drove in two runs apiece for the Bulldogs. Travis Holloman had four hits in five trips for Barton. Wilson capped the Barton scoring with a two-run single in the ninth. In the Barton sixth, Wilson's and a two-run double by Brosseau increased the Bulldog lead to 13-3. A two-out, two-run double by Blackmon put the Bulldogs ahead 7-3 in the fourth. The Trojans cut the Barton lead to 5-3 in the bottom on the second on a lead-off triple by Kyle Lewis and a ground out by Jared Taylor. Barton used RBI doubles by Michael Kopp and Holloman, a two-run single by Wilkes and two Anderson errors to take a 5-2 lead in the second. In the second game, Barton catcher Michael Kopp hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and the Bulldogs survived a late Anderson rally to close out the sweep. Trailing 9-1, the Trojans scored six times in the sixth. The big hit in the inning was a grand slam by Donavon Schmidt on the first pitch from Bulldog reliever Glenn Jones. Anderson got one runner on in the seventh, but the Trojans could not push any more runs across. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs, Blackmon and Wilson both singled, McInerny hit a two-run double, and Kopp hit a two-run homer to left center. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the third for a 6-0 lead on a pair of RBI singles by Kopp and Latimer. Lewis put Anderson on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to right field. The Bulldogs quickly got that run back in the top of the fourth on a triple by Will Walmsley, who had three hits in three trips, and a single by Holloman. Kopp hit his second home run of the game in the fifth to make it 8-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. The sweep improves Barton to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC, while Anderson falls to 3-7, 0-2. The two teams will conclude the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. Game One: Barton 16, Anderson 8 Game Two: Barton 9, Anderson 7 Season Statistics
