Baseball Team Signs One Player During Early Period

ANDERSON, S.C. -- A pitcher who has been coached in summer league by former San Francisco pitcher Dave Dravecky was the lone signee for the Anderson College baseball program during the early signing period in November. Don Ballard, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of Colorado Springs, Colo., signed to play for the Trojans. Ballard is a pitcher and first baseman at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs where he has been a three-year starter. As a junior, he hit .492 with seven homers and 28 RBI. On the mound, he was 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA. In 33 innings, he struck out 49 and walked 19. He was named all-conference and all-state. During the summer, Ballard has played for Dravecky, the former Giant pitcher who lost an arm to cancer. Ballard has participated in three national tournaments with that team -- 2000 AAU, 2001 USSSA, and 2002 Golden Crown.
