Anderson Rally Against Armstrong Falls Short

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Rightfielder Brandon Nunez made a running catch for the final out to preserve an 8-7 victory for No. 6 Armstrong Atlantic State over Anderson College Sunday afternoon at Pirate Field. The Pirates, 5-0 overall, jumped out to a 7-2 lead through four innings. After the two teams swapped single runs in the sixth, the Trojans, 0-3, started mounting their comeback. Armstrong Atlantic's big inning was a five-run fourth which featured six singles. Adam Pelley had a two-run single in the inning for the Pirates. In the top of the eighth, Anderson loaded the bases with one out. Caleb Owen drove in one run with an infield single, and Jason Ratliff followed Owen with a sacrifice fly to center. Jared Taylor scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch. Trailing 8-6, Anderson tried to rally one more time in the ninth. Kyle Lewis walked, Joe Whitham reached on an error, and Seth Thompson reached on an infield hit to load the bases. After Jonathan Pitts grounded into a double play, Taylor hit a shot to right that was flagged down by Nunez to lead pitch runner Tony Graham stranded at third and end the game. Armstrong Atlantic collected eight hits against three Anderson pitchers, while AC finished the game with seven hits. Armstrong 8, Anderson 7 Season Statistics
