Trojans Seal Victory With Second Half Goal; 1-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (7-3-2) earned a hard-fought win over nonconference opponent Lander (8-4-1) on Wednesday evening at Spero Financial Field.

"Proud of the grit and fight shown to get a great result tonight," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "The team battled and stuck to the game plan."

"We will look to repeat this performance, as we take on the number two team in the country on Saturday," added Jacobs.

Anderson settled into the physical match after giving up much of the possession time in the first 10 minutes of play. The Trojans were able to even the time of possession by the end of the scoreless first half of action.

After several good runs, Anderson kept pressing, eventually creating a cluster in front of the goal. In the 57th minute, sophomore Camryn Woods was able to connect with sophomore Kylie Swanson for the eventual game-winner.

Lander responded with some great scoring opportunities. Senior Victoria McGovern made two saves and one Bearcat shot just missed, skimming off of the crossbar. Both McGovern's play and AU's backline played a huge roll in the Black and Gold's win.

The Bearcats outshot the Trojans 11 to 7 for the game with AU taking five corner kicks to Lander's one.

McGovern finished the game with four saves in 90 minutes of action.

Anderson will remain on the road to face SAC powerhouse Catawba on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
