Trojans Season Ends In Heartbreaking Fashion With Late Double Overtime Goal By Carson-Newman; 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (8-7-2) played a hard-fought match from beginning to end, losing in the waning minutes of the double overtime period to the fifth-seeded Eagles of Carson-Newman (8-6-3), 2-1, on Saturday evening at Spero Financial Field.

Anderson struck first in the 32nd minute of the first half after a hard struck cross from senior Emma Deadwyler deflected off of an Eagle defender. Carson-Newman was ablet to score the equalizer in the 57th minute when Krista Nielsen blasted a shot from distance to the upper left corner.

Both AU and C-N had near makes that rattled off the post and crossbar throughout the remainder of regulation. It wasn't until the 107th minute that C-N's Felicia Frick hit a perfectly struck ball that sailed over the outstretched hands of AU keeper Victoria McGovern to give the Eagles the victory.

The Eagles outshot AU 20(9)-15(5) with the Trojans winning the corner kick advantage, 4-1.

McGovern was credited with seven saves on the evening.
