Solid Team Effort Helps Propel Trojans To Road Win Over Limestone; 3-1

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Anderson (3-3-1, 2-1-1 women's soccer put together a solid match from start to finish earning a South Atlantic Conference road win over Limestone (2-5, 1-2 SAC) defeating the Saints, 3-1, on Wednesday evening at Saints Field.

"We are proud to get a result against a solid opponent," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. " We created many opportunities and are excited to have finished in a variety of ways. The team gave a great defensive effort in the second half to finish out the game."

"We look forward to another conference game and celebrating our seniors on Saturday," added Jacobs.

Statistically speaking, the match was almost dead even in all categories with both teams taking 13 shots each. The Trojans had eight shots on goal with the Saints having nine shots on goal. AU won the corner kick edge 5-3 with AU fouling four times to Limestone's three.

Sophomore Meggie Powell scored the games opening goal at the 16:30 mark with sophomore Catherine Nardella adding to the Trojan total during the 31st minute of action.

Anderson added a second half goal to push its lead to, 3-0, when sophomore Camryn Woods connected with graduate Leanna Guion in the 63rd minute.

AU's only blemish came in the 65th minute allowing the Saints lone goal. Limestone's Lucie Bertrand found Laura Bader open for her first goal of the season.

Senior keep Victoria McGovern recorded three saves in the first half of action while junior Macy McDufford made four stops in the final 45 minutes of play. Anderson's backline was credited with a save in the first half after kicking away a ball tracking for the back of the net.

The Black and Gold are back in action when they host South Atlantic Conference opponent Emory & Henry on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm with Senior Recognitions beginning around 4:50 pm.
