Trojans Open Conference Play With Win Over Carson-Newman; 1-0

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – Anderson women's soccer (1-2, 1-0 SAC) defeated South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman (1-2-1, 0-1 SAC), 1-0, to open its conference play on Saturday evening at McCown Field.

AU's opening conference victory is the first one since 2019 when the Trojans defeated Newberry.

"I'm incredibly proud of the grit shown today," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We had to overcome a lightning delay and we were able to earn a tough victory on the road against a very good opponent."

"We executed on the game plan both tactically and by taking advantage of set pieces," added Jacobs.

"It's a great start to conference play and we will look to build from here," emphasized Jacobs.

Despite a very accurate shooting night, with the Trojans taking 15 shots with 11 coming on goal. The Eagles were able to keep the ball out of the net for 75 minutes of play. However, following a great offensive attack by the Trojans which resulted in a corner kick for the Black and Gold, freshman Kaitlyn Gregory placed a perfectly struck ball across the box. Sophomore Kylie Swanson punched it past the keeper to score her first career goal and ultimate game-winner.

The Eagles took 17 shots with four coming on goal while winning the corner kick advantage 7-3.

Anderson senior Victoria McGovern recorded four saves on the evening to help secure the victory.

Anderson steps out of conference play on Wednesday when it travels to USC Aiken. Kick-off is slated for 7 pm.
