Newberry Blanks Women's Soccer Team

NEWBERRY, S.C. -- The Newberry women's soccer team (7-7-1, 4-3-0 SAC) conquered the Anderson University Trojans 4-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Newberry Soccer Complex. The victory improves Newberry to 7-7-1. The loss drops Anderson to 3-10-1. The scoring started early in the game for Newberry and continued throughout the first half as scarlet and gray scored four goals in a 26-minute span. Scoring the first goal was sophomore Amberly Fowler, who connected on a header that beat the Trojan goalkeeper Kelli Whitfield in the 6th minute. Fowler received the cross from freshman Lora Moore to give the scarlet and gray the early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, freshman Allie Johns was set up for a goal in front of the net on a collaborative effort from Moore and junior Sara Griffith, whose one-two pass combination left Johns unmarked. Johns buried the shot into the right corner extending Newberry's lead to 2-0. In the 19th minute, Moore got a goal of her own as a long through pass from freshman Megan Douglas positioned Moore in a goal-scoring opportunity that she did not waste as she chipped the ball over Whitfield lengthening the scarlet and gray lead to 3-0. The final goal of the game came in the 32nd minute, when freshman Jesse Langdon received a long through pass from senior Ashleigh Mayer. Langdon shot the ball into the right corner past a diving Whitfield to stretch the Newberry advantage to 4-0. Anderson University Women's Soccer Statistics
