Abbey Blanks Lady Trojans

BELMONT, N.C. -- The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team received second-half goals from Celene Molera and Connie Axioits as the 19th-ranked Crusaders extended their unbeaten streak to 22, their shutout streak to four and its shutout streak against Conference Carolinas opponents to 15 with a 2-0 Homecoming win over Anderson University Saturday afternoon. The Abbey improves to 8-0-2 overall and 4-0-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Lady Trojans fall to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in Conference Carolinas. Axiotis and Molera teamed up for the first goal of the match at the 54:52 mark. Axiotis beat her mark down the far left side of the field and sent a cross to the center of the box, where Molera buried home a diving header for her ninth goal of the year. Axiotis would provide an insurance goal seven minutes later as she got behind the Anderson defense and chased down a long pass from Amanda Maddock and buried home the breakaway.
