Lady Trojans Fall To Lander, 1-0

GREENWOOD - Lander's Christin Moss scored an early goal and the Lady Bearcats held to beat Anderson University 1-0 in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon. "We showed a ton of heart and we didn't give up," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "I'm proud of the way we played today." Lander improves to 2-0 while Anderson falls to 1-1. Moss scored on a header at the 14:33 mark of the first half off Jannica Finnberg's well-executed corner kick. Finnberg's kick from the right corner found Moss in front of the goal, and the sophomore headed the ball into the upper left-hand corner of the net out of Anderson goalkeeper Calle McCallister's reach. Lady Bearcats goalkeeper Rachael Hine made a save on Anderson's only shot of the first half. Korrin Kelly drilled a knuckling shot that Hine jumped and tapped over the crossbar with under six minutes left before halftime. The Lady Bearcats had some scoring chances early in the second half, including an Annie Polhamus shot that sailed just over the crossbar. Anderson's Kristin Page had a shot with six-plus minutes left that Hine made a save on to preserve the lead. "We created some chances in the second half," Dowiak said. "We had a couple of breakaways and a goal called back because of offsides." It was Hine's first shutout of the season as she finished with two saves. McCallister had four stops for Anderson.
