Lady Trojans Fall To Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. -- Wingate University freshman midfielder Kelly Adams scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over Anderson University Wednesday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field. The Bulldogs improve to 7-2 overall on the year, Anderson falls to 1-5 overall. Adams got the scoring started 29 minutes into the first half, taking a cross from Jordan Mayer to net her third goal of the season. Freshman forward Hannah Holsclaw added to the lead right before the half, taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Julie Zielinski and finding the back of the net on a fast break to give Wingate a 2-0 lead heading to intermission. The Bulldogs struck quickly in the second half when Adams scored her second goal of the game at 46:16. Sophomore forward Kerstin Williams had the assist on the play. Freshman forward Liz Kinney completed the scoring less than two minutes later, collecting a cross from Mayer to net her team-leading seventh goal of the year. Senior goalkeeper Kathryn Smith played the first 73:05 in the net for the Bulldogs, picking up the shutout. Sophomore Sarah Bollman played the final 16:55 in goal, securing one save for the Bulldogs. Anderson had three goalkeepers on the day. Junior Alyssa Stephens got the start, collecting three saves while allowing one goal.
