Women’s Golf Finishes 17th at Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial Invitational

WINDERMERE, Fla. – In arguably the toughest field in NCAA Division II this season, freshman Emma Charles carded a three-round, 3-over-par 219 to lead the Anderson women's golf team, as the Trojans finished in 17th place, Tuesday at the 44th Annual Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial Invitational.

Rollins College hosted the 54-hole tournament on a par-72, 6,095 yard layout at the Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe.

Nationally sixth-ranked Dallas Baptist, which was tied with No. 11 Saint Leo following Monday's first two rounds, broke away for a six-stroke victory over the Lions, while No. 9 Florida Southern remained in third place, two shots further back. Nationally top-ranked Nova Southeastern held the fourth spot, while No. 3 Tampa remained in the fifth slot. No. 5 Barry claimed sixth place, with 15th-ranked Grand Valley State moving up two spots and finished seventh. No. 12 Lee University slid one spot and claimed eighth place, while 10th-ranked Wingate finished ninth.

The No. 4-ranked and host Tars fell two spots and finished 10th, with Flagler and No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne finishing tied for 11th place. No. 21 Embry-Riddle, 13th-ranked Limestone, North Georgia, West Florida, Anderson, Palm Beach Atlantic, Eckerd and Queens finished out the 20-team field.

Florida Southern's Amanda Gartrell (72-66-71=209) and Tampa's Kiira Riihijarvi (70-70-69=140) finished tied atop the individual leaderboard with Dallas Baptist's Julia Garcia finishing in third place, one shot further back.

Charles vaulted 17 spots up the leaderboard following a season-low 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday' final round and finished in a three-way tie for 17th, with her round of 70 tying for the fifth-best score of the day. Sophomores Kerington Lamb and Victoria Hall each carded 237s for the tourney and shared 76th place, while junior Anna Freeman posted a three-round 241 and claimed a share of 87th place. Senior Kate Hill finished in 105th place following a two-day 246.

Next up for the Trojans is the Sunoco-Campbell Oil Classic at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C., March 23-24.
