Women’s Golf Finishes 11th at Patsy Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. – Led by freshman Emma Charles' season-best 2-over-par round (74) on Tuesday, the Anderson University women's golf team finished 11th at Catawba's Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

The Indians hosted the 36-hole event at the 5,973 yard, par-72 Country Club of Salisbury.

Limestone overcame a slim one-shot deficit to claim the team title by five strokes over runner-up UNC Pembroke, which moved up four spots from Monday's opening round. Queens jumped up two spots and finished third, 15 shots behind the Saints, with Mount Olive remaining fourth.

Tusculum finished fifth, while Lenoir-Rhyne fell four spots into a tie for sixth place alongside Montevallo. Host Catawba tumbled out the lead and fell seven spots into eighth, with Young Harris occupying the ninth slot. Lander and AU slipped one spot into 10th and 11th, respectively, while Coker slid from eighth place into 12th.

Belmont Abbey, North Greenville, Erskine and King finished out the 16-team field.

"It was a disappointing tournament for us," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "Our expectation was to finish much higher in the field. But I thought the girls kept fighting and didn't give up. The effort was there - just not the execution. Emma was a bright spot today. Hopefully, we will bounce back next week at Saint Leo's event at Lake Jovita."

Catawba's Kaley Barts (67-76=143) held on to claim individual medalist honors by one shot despite a late charge from UNC Pembroke's Katy Flax (76-68=144), who began the day in an eight-way tie for 23rd. Coker's Alicia Fajardo (70-74=144) also shared runner-up status after trailing by three shots following Monday's first round.

Charles, who equaled her previous season-best round with a 5-over-par 77 on Monday, followed up with her second-round 74 and finished by moving up 14 spots into a tie for 17th place. Sophomore Victoria Hall slipped into a three-way tie for 37th, while junior Anna Freeman finished tied for 44th place. Senior Kate Hill slid into a share of 66th place, with sophomore Kerington Lamb rounding out the Black and Gold in a tie for 72nd place.

The Trojans are scheduled to get back on the course Monday at the St. Leo Invitational in Dade City, Fla.
