Women’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Battle at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Led by sophomore Victoria Hall and junior Anna Freeman's two-day 8-over-par 152s, the Anderson University women's golf team finished in ninth place, Tuesday at the Battle at Hilton Head.

Lincoln Memorial and Barton co-hosted the 36-hole, two-day event at the 5,934 yard, par-72 Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.

"The team really struggled on a stretch of 4-5 holes on their first 9 and dug a pretty deep hole to climb out of, but they really fought back hard to salvage the round," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "After starting on the back, Anna, Victoria, Emma and Kerington actually all shot even-par on the front 9 to finish strong. We finished ninth, right as we were ranked to finish. Being our first tournament of the semester, we have a lot of positives to build on the rest of the semester."

Lee led wire-to-wire and claimed the team title by two strokes over runner-up Carson-Newman, which moved up from a tie for fifth. Catawba was four shots further back in third place, with Missouri-St. Louis and Limestone sharing fourth place. Mount Olive claimed the sixth spot, while Lenoir-Rhyne and Simon Fraser finished in a tie for seventh. Anderson finished ninth, with UNC Pembroke alone in 10th place.

Columbus State, Queens, Davenport, Belmont Abbey, Lincoln Memorial, Barton and Southern Wesleyan rounded out the 17-team field.

UMSL's Tove Rosengren, Catawba's Sarah Coltrane and Lenoir-Rhyne's Ainee O'Connor all finished atop the individual leaderboard after carding 3-over-par 147s. Columbus State's Anna Meleshkina, Simon Fraser's Emily Leung and Limestone's Pilar Martinez finished in a tie for fourth place after notching 4-over-par 148s.

Hall and Freeman finished in a seven-way tie for 13th place, with freshman Emma Charles posting a two-day 155 and finishing tied for 31st. Senior Kate Hill shared 48th place after notching a 160, while sophomore Kerington Lamb finished in a tie for 56th place after posting a 163.

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will return to the links at the Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial at the Golden Bear Club in Windermere, Fla.
