Women’s Golf Set to Open Spring Slate in Battle at Hilton Head

ANDERSON, S.C. – After posting three top-10 finishes, including a victory at the AU Invitational in September, the Anderson University women's golf team is set to open its' spring slate at the Battle at Hilton Head, which will be co-hosted by Lincoln Memorial and Barton, at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Monday and Tuesday.

Last year's event was hosted on a 5,934 yard, par-72 layout.

Through four fall tournaments, sophomore Victoria Hall paced the Trojans with a 76.75 unadjusted stroke average and posted a pair of top-12 finishes, including a fifth-place performance at the AU Invitational. A native of Moore, S.C., Hall notched a team-low 71 in the second round of the St. Leo Invitational.

Junior Anna Freeman won the AU Invitational and was just behind Hall with a 76.88 unadjusted stroke average. The Aiken, S.C., native also captured a top-10 finish by claiming eighth place at the St. Leo Invitational. Freshman Emma Charles posted a 77.75 unadjusted stroke average through eight rounds, while capturing third place at the AU Invitational and garnering a share of 17th place at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

This marks the second straight year that the Trojans have opened the season at the Battle at Hilton Head, after finishing as runners-up to Florida Tech a year ago.

Florida Tech's Lucy Eaton won individual medalist honors by one shot over teammate Lauren Watson last year, with Rogers State's Jess Whitting taking third place.

Hall jumped from a share of 13th place following last year's first round and finished fourth, while senior Tiffany Elam finished in a tie for fifth place. Kate Hill claimed a share of ninth place a year ago, with Kerrington Lamb sharing 37th place. Freeman finished in a tie for 53rd.
