Women’s Golf Inks Two Standouts for Next Season

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Trojans' women's golf program has added a pair of out-of-state standouts, Riley Mayhew and Jessica Rathbone, to the roster, with the NLI signees slated to begin playing for the Trojans during the 2020-21 season.

Riley Mayhew, the top-ranked player in the state of Mississippi, claimed five consecutive individual state championships (2015-19), while helping lead Coach Brandon Rea's Nettleton High Tigers to team state titles in 2016 and 2017. The Tigers also won four straight region championships (2016-19), while finishing as state runners-up in 2019.

Mayhew, a native of Plantersville, Miss., posted a 74 scoring average and is ranked 784th nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Off the course, Mayhew is a member of the Beta Club and an Honor Roll member.

"Riley embodies everything we look for in a player for our program," said Anderson Assistant Coach Denton Moore. 'She is a great student and has a strong faith, incredible work ethic, big-time power off the tee and a phenomenal short game. I have never seen a player win five consecutive state titles in my lifetime. It is almost unheard of. We can't wait to have her officially join the AU golf family come August."

Jessica Rathbone, a native of Montpelier, Va., is ranked 12th in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and ranked 740th nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard. While competing for Coach David Hudak's Patrick Henry High Patriots, Rathbone finished tied for third in both the girls and boy's State Championships and earned Second-team All-Metro honors in both 2018 and 2019. She won the Peggy Kirk Bell Tournament with a round of 69 at the Pendleton Golf Club and posted a 75 scoring average during her senior season.

In the classroom, Rathbone is a Hanover Academic Scholar, and earned the Taylor Award (Freshmen-Senior Year).

"Jessica is one of the grittiest players I have had the privilege of recruiting here at AU," said Anderson Head Coach Danny Neal. "She shows incredible consistency every time she tees it up. Jessica has a fiery competitiveness that is hard to replicate. She is a great student, with incredible work ethic to be the best and just a perfect fit for our team. She is going to be a welcomed addition to the AU golf family, and we can't wait for her to get here in August."

"Including the men's signees, this is the first time we have ever brought in four players ranked inside the Top-1,000 in the country," added Moore.
