DATAW ISLAND, S.C. – Rising junior Anna Freeman and incoming freshman Emma Charles each notched top-10 finishes at last week's Women's South Carolina Golf Association's (WSCGA) State Amateur Championship, which was hosted on a par-72, 5,932-yard Dataw Island – Cotton Dike Course layout.
Freeman, a native of Aiken, S.C. who helped lead the Trojans to their first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship last season, carded a three-day 16-over-par 232, including a second-round 74. She finished in a four-way tie for eighth place, 15 strokes off the pace set by Dawn Woodard and Sophia Burnett.
A Hartsville, S.C., native, Charles will join the Black and Gold this fall. She finished alongside Freeman, with both sharing the eighth spot and also posted a 2-over-par 74 in the second round.
