Women’s Golf Set to Wrap up Fall Slate at Flagler’s Fall Slam

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's golf team will wrap up its fall slate by heading south to the Sunshine State for the second time in a week, as the Trojans are scheduled to compete at the 17th Annual Flagler Fall Slam for the second time in three years.

The Saints will host the two-day, 36-hole tournament at the Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla., with last year's tourney being played on a 6,062 yard, par-72 layout.

Both rounds are scheduled for an 8 a.m. start with split tee times on both Monday and Tuesday.

Joining the Trojans in the battle for the team title will be the host Saints, Barry, Carson-Newman, Catawba, Columbus State, Converse, Eckerd, Eastern Florida State, Embry Riddle, Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone, Missouri St. Louis, Mount Olive, Queens, Seminole State and Wingate.

Nova Southeastern claimed last year's championship with a two-day 579, while snapping Barry's three-year run as team champions. Nova Southeastern's Sofia Garcia Austt won individual honors at last year's tourney with an impressive two-day 136, which included a tournament record 67 in the opening round.

The Trojans competed annually at the Slam from 2010-2014, while posting their highest finish (11th) in six appearances in both 2010 and 2013, while claiming 14th place two years ago.

Kate Hill led the Trojans in their 2017 appearance at Marsh Creek with a tie for 42nd place, with Anna Freeman claiming a share of 62nd place.

The Trojans are coming off a solid fourth place finish at last week's Saint Leo Invitational in Dade City, Fla. Freeman paced the Trojans over the two-day event and claimed a share of eighth place, while Victoria Hall equaled the low-round of the tournament in Tuesday's final round and finished in a tie for 12th. Freshman Emma Charles finished in a tie for 27th place, with sophomore Kerington Lamb claiming a share of 32nd place. Hill rounded out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 41st place.

Hall fired a 71 at St. Leo last week, while Freeman, Charles and Lamb have each carded 74s during the fall. Freeman leads the team with a 76.00 unadjusted stroke average through six rounds, while Hall is just behind with a 76.67 unadjusted stroke average and Charles follows with a 77.17 average.
