GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Freshman Jessica Kleinberg scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute off an assist from fellow freshman Carrie Settle, as the Anderson women's soccer team stretched its win streak to six matches with a 1-0 road win past Limestone in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. Senior Larissa Fedorowich ignited the game-winning touch with a long ball to Kleinberg, who shielded the delivery from a Saints' defender while Settle gained control, then fed the ball back to Kleinberg for the winner. With the win streak Anderson improved to 9-8 overall and 7-3 in the league and has recorded the most conference wins in school history, while equaling the longest win streak in AU women's soccer history. The Trojans also collected six consecutive victories in 2001. Limestone dropped to 6-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play. "It was another complete team effort," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "And it may have been our best defensive effort of the season." The Trojans were outshot 14-7 on the afternoon and Limestone held a 6-4 edge in shots on goal, but AU posted a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks. Kleinberg notched three shots, while Ashley Cotton recorded two and Carrie Settle and Catherine Thomas each posted two attempts. "Kelli [Whitfield] played an outstanding game in goal," Dowiak added of senior Kelli Whitfield's effort between the pipes for the Trojans. The native of Anderson went the full 90 minutes and recorded six saves en route to picking up her second shutout of the season. Anderson, which is battling for position in the conference tournament, closes out the regular season on the road at Mount Olive on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the first contest of a women's - men's doubleheader at Amon Field. Game Stats Season Stats
