MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Four second-half goals by Pfeiffer proved to be too much to overcome as the Trojans dropped a 4-0 decision to the Lady Falcons in a Conference Carolinas women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at a rain-soaked N.E. Lefko Field. The Lady Falcons improved to 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-2 in conference action, while Anderson fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the league. The two teams battled to a scoreless first half, with Pfeiffer holding a 9-6 advantage in shots but Anderson had the 5-3 lead with shots on goal. Trojan keeper Kelli Whitfield turned away perhaps the Lady Falcons' best opportunity to score in the opening frame when Pfeiffer's Jessica Moulton fired a shot late in the half that was knocked down by Whitfield. Pfeiffer freshman Sheena Regan scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 55th minute of play with Ashleigh Rhoads and Vanessa Gallegos collecting assists on the play. The Trojans narrowly missed an opportunity to notch the equalizer six minutes later, as freshman Jessica Kleinberg took a ball from the left side and made a nice cross to forward Joelle Purinton, who hit the outside post with her shot at the 61:25 mark. AU's Ashley Cotton followed with another shot just 11 seconds later but was wide right. The Lady Falcons later scored three goals in a four-minute span to put the contest out of reach. "I'm disappointed with the loss," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "We were unable to finish on some early opportunities and that proved costly, but we played a very strong first half and played well overall to create those chances." Larissa Fedorowich led the Trojans with six shots, including three on goal, while Kleinberg notched two attempts on the afternoon. "Larissa really controlled the middle and had some good looks, but their keeper made the saves," added Dowiak. The Trojans are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 30, when Anderson plays host to Belmont Abbey in a one-match conference homestand. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the AU Soccer Field.
