ANDERSON, S.C. -- Following a stellar week that saw her tally 13 points to help lead Anderson to three wins, freshman Ashley Cotton has been named Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. She scored both goals in the Trojans' road win past Mars Hill, including the game-winner at the 67:41 mark. The Sumter, S.C. native followed up that performance by posting another score in the 48th minute versus Lees-McRae and recorded a hat trick and an assist in the win past Coker, giving the Trojans their most conference wins in school history and the first four-match win streak since 2007 and only their second since the 2001 season. For the year, Cotton is second on the team with seven goals and 15 total points. She is also first in accuracy, boasting a .636 SOG percentage. "Cotton has stepped up in the past two weeks to make a major contribution," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "Her confidence is through the roof right now and we will continue to count on her for some more clutch finishing." Cotton becomes the third Trojan women's soccer player to be named conference Player of the Week this season, after fellow freshmen Carrie Settle and Jessica Kleinberg earned the honor on Sept. 22 and Oct. 6, respectively. Cotton and the Trojans, who are currently fourth in the conference, are back in action Wednesday, when AU visits seventh-place Limestone as the two teams battle for seeding in the conference tournament. Kick-off in Gaffney is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Saints Field.
