Settle Earns Player of the Week Honors

ANDERSON, S.C. -- After knocking home the game-winning goal in the third minute of overtime in the Trojans' 3-2 conference win past Barton last Saturday night, freshman Carrie Settle has been named Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Settle's first career score as a Trojan could not have come at a better time for AU, as her score gave Anderson a hard-fought win on a rain-soaked Civic Center pitch. With the score knotted at 2-2, her game-winner came off a well-placed corner kick from the right side off the foot of teammate Adrienne Lough that ended the contest and set off a wet post-game celebration as AU claimed its first win of the season. "You always hope your freshmen will rise to the challenge of the college game early in their first season and that's literally what Carrie did Saturday night," Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak said. "She rose above everyone to drive her header in to the top corner for the game winner." Anderson is back in action on Wednesday at nearby rival Erskine, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m. in Due West.
