ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson women's soccer team continued its winning ways as it defeated Lees-McRae 2-0, in Conference Carolinas' play on Thursday night at the AU Soccer Field. After defeating both St. Andrews and Mars Hill in their previous two matches, the win against Lees-McRae gives the Trojans their third win in a row. Head coach Jason Dowiak is very pleased with the way his team has been playing, "I feel really good. It's always good to win," said Dowiak. "It's our longest winning streak of the year." Dowiak was also quick to give credit to his players. He credited his back three of Katelyn Conover, Tori Danielson, and Kristi Caldwell as well as his keeper Kelli Whitfield for their great play. Those four played vital role in the Trojans' first shutout of the season. "It was a great time to get that first shutout," Dowiak said. Senior Catherine Thomas started off the scoring attack for the Trojans. She was able to put one past the Lees-McRae goal keeper off of a beautifully played corner kick from Larissa Federowich. The goal was Thomas' first of the season. Freshman Ashley Cotton added an insurance goal for the Trojans just two minutes after halftime. It was Cotton's fourth goal of the season. "We had a lot of players step up tonight," said Dowiak. "Catherine Thomas was able to get her first goal, and Cotton had her third goal in just two games." The win moves the Trojans to 6-8 on the season, 5-3 in Conference Carolinas. The loss drops Lee-McRae to 9-6, and 6-3 in league play. The Trojans travel to Coker on Saturday, with kick-off slated for 2 p.m. Game Stats season Stats
