ANDERSON, S.C. -- Following a stellar week that saw her score four goals and help lead Anderson to two wins, freshman Jessica Kleinberg has been named Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Kleinberg was responsible for all three goals in the Trojans' win past Belmont Abbey that snapped a two-match winless skid for AU. She followed up that performance by notching AU's first goal in the victory over Converse, propelling Anderson to its first two-match win streak of the season. Trailing 1-0 versus Belmont Abbey, which was undefeated in league action, Kleinberg's intense pressure in front of the Abbey net forced an own goal that tied the score. Again trailing midway through the second half, Catherine Thomas played a high ball into the box, and Kleinberg corralled the ball and hammered it into back of the net to again knot the score at 2-2. Kleinberg gave the Trojans the lead for good with 15:27 remaining when teammate Katelyn Conover played a long ball, and Kleinberg flipped the ball past the charging Belmont Abbey keeper before finding the net for the game-winning goal. The Hamilton, Ohio native got the Trojans on the scoreboard against Converse off a perfectly played ball from Thomas behind the Converse defenders, as she dribbled past the keeper and placed a left-footed finish in the back of the net at the 62:52 mark. On the season, Kleinberg leads Anderson in goals (5), points (12) and shots (34). "Jess has consistently been a threat in every game this year and is showing the confidence of a seasoned veteran," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "She finally broke out against league-leading Belmont Abbey, who had allowed only two goals in conference play all season." Kleinberg becomes the second Trojan women's soccer player to be named conference Player of the Week accolades, after fellow freshman Carrie Settle earned the honor on Sept. 22. Kleinberg and the Trojans are back in action Wednesday, when the Trojans play host to South Atlantic Conference foe-Newberry at the AU Soccer Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
