Armstrong Knocks Off Anderson

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Five different Armstrong Atlantic players scored first-half goals and freshman Amaka Ofuani notched a hat trick in the second half as the Pirate women knocked off Anderson University 8-0 at Cingular Field Friday afternoon. "We knew they were a good team," said Anderson head coach Abby Crumpton. "We were just overmatched. We had some moments where we possessed the ball with four or five passes, but we made some mental mistakes. We just didn't execute." The Pirates (12-3) bettered their inaugural season's 11 wins with the victory. Senior captain Donna Cheyne began the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute off of a cross from Lyndsi Stricklen, the PBC's assist leader. Just over a minute later, freshman Kristin Burton added to her PBC-leading goal total with a flick that beat Anderson (4-11) keeper Kelli Whitfield, again off of a feed from Stricklen. Shana Neves delivered the third goal of the half on a header from a corner kick fed in by Stricklen that made it 3-0. A pair of AASU players scored their first goals as Pirates to wrap up the first-half action. Kim Van Houten fired a loose ball in the box into the back of the net in the 37th minute, then Ginny Child sent home a goal after a free kick in the 44th minute to give AASU a 5-0 halftime lead. After intermission, it was all Ofuani as the freshman delivered on a penalty kick in the 68th minute, a through ball in the 85th minute and on a header from a corner kick in the 86th minute. 2006 Anderson Women's Soccer Statistics
