Lady Trojans Fall To Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey received goals from Jill Barnes, Erin Kolb and Stephanie Leotii on its way to a 3-0 victory over Anderson University in a CVAC match Saturday afternoon. The Abbey improves to 10-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the CVAC, while Anderson drops to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the CVAC. The Abbey got on the board just six minutes into the contest as sophomore midfielder Lauren Faerber dribbled down the right side and sent a cross to the goal mouth, where freshman defender Kristin Voirin fired a point-blank shot that was saved by Kelli Whitfield, but the deflection came right to Barnes, who tapped in her second goal in as many matches to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. Faerber would earn another assist just nine minutes later when she and freshman defender Amanda Maddock assisted junior forward Erin Kolb's ninth goal of the year, a shot from the top of the 18-yard box to widen the lead to 2-0. The Crusaders would close the scoring in the 54th minute. After a foul by the Trojans, Leotii buried the free kick from 20 yards out. 2006 Anderson Women's Soccer Statistics
